Wescom Group Announces the sMRT V300-X1 — the World’s ONLY ATEX Zone 1 Approved Man Overboard Beacon Now Available
Wescom Group is proud to announce the launch of the sMRT V300-X1, the world’s only ATEX Zone 1 approved man overboard beacon, now available to support safety-critical operations in hazardous marine and offshore environments. Designed and manufactured in the UK, the sMRT V300-X1 extends the proven V300 platform into applications where explosive atmospheres may be present.
Specifically engineered for use in Zone 1 environments, the sMRT V300-X1 delivers intrinsically safe man overboard alerting without compromising performance. The beacon combines AIS, VHF DSC, and a 121.5 MHz homing signal to provide rapid localised distress alerting and accurate survivor location to nearby vessels.
Upon activation, either automatically through water immersion or manually by the user, the sMRT V300-X1 transmits an immediate distress alert while continuously updating the casualty’s position via AIS. Integrated GNSS technology ensures accurate location data, while a high-intensity strobe light and visual status indicators support recovery operations in both day and night conditions.
The sMRT V300-X1 is fully Class-M compliant and certified for use in hazardous areas, making it suitable for offshore energy, commercial shipping, workboats, and industrial marine operations where conventional man overboard devices may not be permitted. Its ATEX Zone 1 approval allows the device to be worn and operated safely in environments where flammable gases may be present.
