Built on decades of experience in safety-critical electronics, the SHIELD range was developed for serious leisure, commercial, and professional users who depend on reliable global alerting in demanding environments. Each device operates on the 406 MHz Cospas-Sarsat system, enabling rapid detection, accurate localisation, and trusted international search and rescue response.
The sMRT SHIELD PLB was presented as a compact personal locator beacon designed for individuals operating offshore or in remote locations, delivering global alerting capability in a robust, everyday-carry form factor. The sMRT SHIELD+ PLB built on this platform with enhanced signalling and situational awareness features, supporting improved visibility and faster rescue coordination for higher-risk operating conditions.
Visitors to METSTRADE 2025 were also given a preview of the sMRT SHIELD+ EPIRB, a next-generation emergency position-indicating radio beacon intended for fixed, vessel-mounted installations. Built on the same core platform architecture, it extends the SHIELD concept into the EPIRB category.
